Construction has just kicked off on a series of upgrades that promise to enhance your park experience. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming your way over the next year:
1. The Roundhouse: Picture a brand-new 10,000-square-foot building dedicated to all things train-themed fun! Named “The Roundhouse,” this exciting addition will house an indoor play structure designed like a locomotive engine, providing a cool retreat from the Arizona heat. It will also feature a multipurpose room for various activities and gatherings.
2. Splash Pad Extravaganza: Get ready to splash and play in the sun! We’re introducing a new 5,000-square-foot splash pad play area, fulfilling a long-awaited dream for many visitors. This water attraction promises hours of refreshing entertainment for kids and adults alike.
3. Enhancements Galore: Beyond the headline features, the park will also see upgrades such as new restrooms serving both outdoor visitors and users of the indoor facility, a welcoming entry plaza near Stillman Station with seating areas, greenery, and public art, as well as improved pathways, exterior lighting, and tree plantings throughout the site.
These improvements are not just random additions; they are the result of thoughtful planning and community feedback. The splash pad, in particular, has been a top request for years and was identified as a key enhancement during the park’s master planning process.
Funding for this $13.1 million project comes from a mix of sources reflecting our community’s commitment to preserving and enhancing this cherished space. Scottsdale voters approved part of the funding through the 2019 Bond Election, and our partners at the Scottsdale Railroad & Mechanical Society are generously contributing to the indoor play structure. The remainder of the project is supported by the city’s general fund, park revenues, and tourism funds.
